The Guilt of Balance

By Jason Henkel, Chief Balance Engineer

If you have taken our training, you may be witnessing the guilt of having and maintaining balance on a team or in an office where frantic show and speed working long hours is the norm.  Many will look at you strangely and might even accuse you of not working "hard" - although they wonder how the hell you always seem to be the most dependable producer in the whole company.  Some bosses won’t understand – they grew up in a different industrial era where hands and legs must always be moving to produce the widget.  They didn't see the switch to the modern era where the power multiplier actually happens when your brain is moving rather than mindless body parts moving.  Technologies have enabled unimaginable efficiencies when used properly. When we show people how to make Microsoft Outlook your executive secretary rather than a hated message delivery mechanism, people are shocked.  The answer was right under their noses this whole time, but we were too busy moving information around instead of getting things done.

I'm always reminded that being well adjusted to a sick society is no sign of good health.  If you have guilt from finally breaking out of the frantic show and found your agency to be the highest producer in your company without the outdated public show of sprinting and being out of breath "to show your dedication to the boss"…well then congratulations; you are one of the evolved ones.  Keep going.
