Permission to Be You - Granted
By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer
Over the past few months, I’ve been writing a “permission granted” blog series. In the series, I’ve been pointing out countercultural mentalities and habits that successful people swear are part of their path to excellence. I tend to agree with each of the countercultural thoughts that I’ve written about. There may be some that you don’t agree with. And that is perfectly fine!
If you find fulfillment working on the weekends or staying at your job for hours after closing time, then that’s ok. If you like your identity of being a yes person that people can count on to help, great! You should be you. There is no one right way through life. Heck, I simultaneously listen to podcasts about Essentialism (which is about saying no to the things that you don’t find meaningful in your life) and Saying Yes (which is about saying yes to things and broadening your horizons). Both messages are valuable, and I need the lessons of both of those podcasts in my life at different times.
The alternative paths that I’ve been writing about resonate with me, and they help me to feel more myself when I follow them. But if your path takes you in different directions, then your preferences are valid. We are all unique. So the most important permission you should be granted is to be unapologetically you.
