Recover Deleted Items in Outlook
By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer
Last week, my blog post was about using the SHIFT + DELETE keys to permanently delete items in your Microsoft Outlook Inbox. If you start getting really good at this, your fingers will sometimes move faster than your conscious thought. So fast that you might accidentally permanently delete an email that you didn’t want to actually delete. Don’t worry, the email can be recovered.
In your Outlook Inbox, click on the “Folder” tab at the top of the page. Under the Folder tab, there is a button called “Recover Deleted Items.” If you click on that button, a new window will appear with all of your permanently deleted emails from the last month of so. There are headings on the top (Subject, Deleted On, From) that you can click on to sort the list. So if you just deleted the item you need to recover 1 minute ago, you might want to click on the Deleted On heading to sort by the date when the emails were deleted and find the one you want to recover a little quicker.
Once you’ve found and clicked on the email you want to recover, make sure the “Restore Selected Items” button is checked in the lower left-hand corner of the window and then click “Ok.” In a couple of seconds, you’ll see the email back in your Inbox.
