Use Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V to Copy, Cut, Paste

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

The last few weeks I’ve been extolling the wonders of keyboard strokes because of how much time they save.  A trifecta of keyboard strokes that I’ve used almost daily for many years is Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X, Ctrl +V to Copy, Cut, Paste.

If you ever have text or a picture of anything really in a computer program that you want to copy over and over again, simply highlight or select the item you want to copy, press Ctrl and C at the same time to copy, move to where you want the copies to go, and then press Ctrl and V together to paste.

Similarly, if you want to move text or a picture or whatever in a computer program from one place to another, highlight or select the item you want to move, press Ctrl and X at the same time to cut, move to where you want the item to go, and then press Ctrl and V together to paste.

Programs like Word and Excel often have buttons in their header ribbons for Cut, Copy, and Paste, but there’s no need to hunt for those specific buttons if you have the keyboard strokes memorized.  And in environments like websites where you don’t have the helpful tabs and buttons to perform functions like copy, cut, and paste; keyboard strokes can become lifesavers in completing your tasks.
