24 Hours of Gratitude

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

It’s Thanksgiving Week!  I love Thanksgiving and its emphasis on gratitude.  Gratitude is such a powerful player in my life.  It helps me to more readily see the good in the world and simultaneously be able to deal with the difficult.  Each year, around Thanksgiving week, I like to have a dedicated 24 hours devoted to gratitude.

During my 24 hours, I express my sincere gratitude to as many beings as possible.  Sometimes I spend a large portion of the day handwriting my holiday cards to friends and family detailing what I’ve appreciated about them during the past year.  Sometimes I text people as they come to mind to let them know that I’m thinking of them and what I’m grateful for in our relationship.  Sometimes I’m out running errands making sure to wave at other drivers, sincerely thanking everyone who helps me in a store, and randomly complimenting strangers that catch my eye.  Whether it’s via text, note, social media, letter, card, nonverbal smile, speaking, or any other form of communication, for one whole day my brain is looking for ways to thank people for their beauty, and that day is always wonderful.  Expressing gratitude feels great, and the more I do it, the more the practice bleeds from the 24-hour dedicated day to every day.

During this Thanksgiving week, do you have a 24-hour period you could dedicate to gratitude?  It doesn’t have to take a lot of time or energy, but the gratitude you spread will be well worth any effort you give.
