Keep A "Today Is a Great Day To" List
By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer
As regular readers of this blog have probably realized, I love lists and checklists. Another list that I find helpful in my life is my “Today is a great day to” list.
This list is where I keep track of activities that I’ve either found enjoyable in the past or I believe would be fun in the future. They can be inexpensive or expensive. They can be simple or complex to plan. The point of the list is to give me ideas of exciting activities to plan if I have a free weekend coming up or if I’m in the middle of a trying time and need a pick-me-up.
If I’m looking in a local magazine or paper and notice an upcoming event that might be fun, it goes on the list. If I’m walking around town and see a flyer for an intriguing activity, it goes on the list. Anytime I encounter an activity that my brain thinks is exciting, it goes on the list.
Here are some of the items on my list: go on a hayride, take a countryside drive, Christmas movie marathon, get a massage, go antiquing, walk outside, listen to rain, watch Hocus Pocus, visit Castle Noel, have tea at Miss Molly’s, admire houses in historic district.
If an activity is on a specific day, and I want to make sure that I participate, then I’ll create a task for that specific event. But for endeavors that are fun or sound fun and can be done pretty much any time when I could use a boost or a fun day, then my “Today is a great day to” list is a repository of great ideas to get my planning started.
