New Items Feature in Outlook

By Tana M. Mann Easton, Lead Efficiency Engineer

There’s a handy shortcut called New Items in Outlook that can save you some clicks every day.  In your Outlook Inbox, Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, and Notes; there is a button in the Home tab called New Items.  The New Items button allows you to start a new E-mail Message, Appointment, Meeting, Contact, or Task from anywhere in Outlook.  So if you’re in your Calendar and need to send an e-mail, you don’t need to navigate to your inbox to start a new message.  You can select New Items then E-mail Message from your Calendar.

If you’re in your Inbox and need to post a task, you don’t need to click into your Tasks screen to do that.  Simply click on New Items in the Home tab and select Task right from your Inbox.

The New Items button saves me some clicks and time every day, and I hope it does the same for you.
