Progress or Just Movement

By Jason Henkel, Chief Balance Engineer

The single most prominent issue I see with individuals as we dive into any productivity engagement is that there's not enough awareness around the difference between movement and progress.

Take a pause today and make sure that each movement you have planned is directly tied to meaningful, deliberate task and goal accomplishment.  You'd be surprised how much activity can be carved out by just frequently scrutinizing the list of to dos.

My challenge to you - Look at your list today; pick one item and decide a more efficient way, delegate it, or even fully cancel it if the situation has evolved (which happens all the time).  It's ok to close down an effort in the middle if the meaning has dissolved.  Big warning to perfectionists; finishing simply for the sake of finishing is eating a lot of time.  I'm a recovering perfectionist, so I can tell you first hand.  The compulsive "must finish what I start" has cost me weeks and weeks per year compared to now where I objectively look at the global situation of any initiative and am happy to give it the chop if life has moved on without it.  Watch the time flood back into your days and weeks.

Now, jump over to your task list and pick one.  Good luck!!
